Social Media For Artists
Make Social Media Marketing Work Harder
If you have an art, craft or photography business you probably know social media needs to be part of your marketing mix. But how well do you understand it and if you understood it better how much harder could it work for you? This is where my ‘Social Media For Artists’ course comes in.
Join me on my 3 week course where I will explain the underlying principles of social media. Learn why its exist and why it works the way it does. Armed with this knowledge let me show you how to get much more from social media with less effort whatever platforms you are using and how social fits in with the bigger marketing plan.
My course promise
“In this 3 week online course I will take you from a place where social media can feel overwhelming and all consuming to one where you understand why it exists, what its goals and objectives are so that you can align your goals and objectives with it, regardless of the platform, so that it shows you and your work to more people achieving better results.
I will take you from a place where you see social media algorithms as your enemy that holds back your potential to something that you can understand and work with to promote your work better.
I will take you from a place where your social media marketing is very hit and miss right now to a place where you can make small tweaks to planning, timings, hashtags, post structure and more that align more with the platforms algorithms so that you can spend the same time (or less) to get much better results from your efforts.
You will go from a place where you might be focusing too much time on social media right now to one where you understand how it forms part of a marketing mix and where the right balance should be.”
Before I tell you more about this social media for artists course, let me tell you who this is really for …
As an artist, maker or photographer you want to build a sustainable online business that grows year on year. You want to follow simple steps that will help you to grow a list of collectors that continue to buy from you time after time.
You either already know that social media needs to be part of that process or need convincing why it needs to be part of that process.
You currently feel overwhelmed by the number of platforms and features available. You have made some efforts to promote yourself on social media but are finding it is consuming too much of your time and you don’t really understanding why things are becoming less effective and you want to work smarter not harder on social media.
This social media for artists online course is for you if …
You don’t think you need to use social media
If you are not currently using social media to promote your art, craft or photography business you are missing out on a big opportunity. Social media is an opportunity to connect with new customers and contacts. Unlike traditional advertising it is free and not restricted by geographical borders. If done well it can also be very targeted towards your intended audience. This course will highlight the potential that is out there waiting to be tapped by you which many of your competitors are already tapping in to.
You don’t know where to start with social media
You know you need to use social media but you are overwhelmed by all the platforms and features available. You don’t know where to start and are worried that you will spread yourself too thinly leaving little time to spend in the studio which is where you really want to be. Let me take you through a number of the most popular platforms available to help you identify where you should be focusing your efforts in the short term and what you might look at further down the line.
You are using social media but disappointed
Most people probably fall into this category. They are using social media, have had some short term wins but lately things have just fallen right back and they are spending more time getting less results. Things have changed a lot in social media and if you understand the goals of the social media platform you are on and the stage that they are at in their growth cycle you will start to understand why changes that they have made have affected you. Whilst you might have experienced fast growth in a platform by getting into it during its own growth stage you are likely at a stage now where the platform wants you to take paid advertising from them. It wants you to pay to reach more of your followers and is showing your posts to a small percentage of them organically to encourage that spend. Whilst of course that is an option, it can be an expensive one. In this course I will show you how to make efforts in social media go much further without having to pay for it.
If you see yourself here then you are in the right place. In this social media for artists online course I am going to give you the tools, inspiration, knowledge, confidence and support needed to use social media much better to promote your art, craft and photography.
By the end of this online course you will know …
why it is so important that you have a presence on social media as part of your marketing strategy
which are the key social media platforms and which might be best suited for you
how to understand social media algorithms by linking them to their business goals
what type of content works best with algorithms and resonates with customers
how planning, batching and other changes you can make can make such a difference
how to grow your following more effectively
By the end of this social media for artists online course you will have the confidence to use social media more effectively to attract more new customers to your online art, craft or photography business with less effort.
“Everything I have seen through your course and blog I have been doing and I have been having steady growth. I am happy with how things have progressed”

So what’s inside my social media for artists online course?
My ‘Social Media For Artists‘ online course for artists, makers and photographers is broken down into 2 modules . It is run over 3 weeks with a new module being released each week for 2 weeks followed by an implementation week. Here is a short taster of what you should expect in each module.
Module 1: Understanding Social Media
Building a mailing list is slow and steady but can be much more predictable and should be at the core of your business. Social media, on the other hand, whilst being somewhat less predictable and less controlled can produce rapid spurts of growth and can help fuel traffic to your mailing list and website and should also play a big part in your marketing processes.
But where do you start? There are so many platforms and so many features in each platform. Getting to understand social media starts with understanding the social platforms themselves. Why do they exist? What are their business aims and which align with what you are doing? Then you need to understand what ticks their boxes along with the boxes of users who might want to follow you on there. In this module we will cover
- why do social media companies exist
- why is social media so important
- which social platform(s) to choose
- profiles convert followers
- social media features
- getting to know your followers
- planning social media content
Module 2: Making Social Media Work Harder
Having covered many of the general principles behind how most social platforms operate in the previous module in this module we will look at having chosen your preferred platform(s) what things you can do that will generally make that platform work much harder for you. We will look at how you can encourage the platform itself to show your posts to more people but also how you can bring more people to the posts yourself too. We will end the module with some lessons on maintenance, how to measure your progress and how social media should fit into your overall marketing strategy. In this module we will cover
- using hashtags effectively
- best time to post
- useful tools for social media
- batching and scheduling
- linking from social media
- linking to social media and sharing content
- repurposing content
- growth techniques
- pruning your social following
- social media metrics
- part of a bigger plan

Burning questions people ask before enrolling
Will this course teach me how to use each social media platform feature?
Absolutely not! This is not what this course is about. If you want to know how to create an Instagram story or reel or add a post on Pinterest, video on YouTube etc just Google that and you will find a wealth of free tutorials to show you precisely how to use that feature in that platform.
This course takes a refreshing step back from that level of technical detail. It helps you to understand social media platforms at a higher level so that once you understand how they operate and why you can use that information to use the platforms much more effectively so that the platform will increase the number of people it shows your content to and you can understand your audience better so that you can design content that resonates better with it.
Do I need to use the tools and software you recommend?
During the course I will introduce a number of tools that will help you with your social media. Most of the tools offer free versions and there are also some affordable paid versions for people who want to dig deeper. These are, however, a handful of the many tools out there to help you with social media and you will get as much out of this course whether you use those or other tools you might already be using or prefer.
How much time is needed for the course?
Most people should find that 2 weeks is ample time to get through this course spending maybe 4-6 hours per week on the course. No new material is delivered in the 3rd week so that you can use this time to implement what you have already learned and ask any further support questions you need. Getting good at what is suggested in the course will, however, take time and practice but this will just become part of your ongoing social media marketing activities.
I am worried I will not be able to cope with the technology?
I consider one of my strengths to be simplifying technology for customers. I have been around technology all my life but it still frustrates me when I see things that are far more complicated than they need to be so my plan in all my courses is to keep things as simple and to the point as possible. That said social media can be time consuming and overwhelming for many. Hopefully by taking a step back from it as you work through this course you can understand it better and make better sense of what platforms, tools and features matter and what you might ignore for now so that you work smarter not harder to achieve better results.
Can I have access to the entire course right away?
I deliberately release the content of the course slowly over the period of 2 weeks a module at a time each week. This isn’t to make things difficult for you this is actually a technique to avoid overwhelm, to help you stay focused and on track and to help you pace yourself. It also helps keep people together as they move forward and support each other in my ‘scheduled’ version of the course.
Many online courses have a reputation for people not completing them and this technique is designed to minimise the chance of that. Some people might be able to complete it in less than 3 weeks and some may take longer but 3 weeks is considered a reasonable time for everyone to fit it into their busy lives but still be able to give it the attention it requires.
But don’t worry if you go over. Some of you will but you will have lifetime access to the material so you will still be able to finish it in your own time.
Will there be any further costs during the course?
The course recommends several tools to help you with your social media. Most tools are free or have free editions that will suit most people but some of you may find you want to upgrade to affordable paid versions of some of the tools further down the line once you start seeing better results from your social media efforts.
What if it doesn't work?
That is a negative self limiting thought process that you need to reframe! Every time you hear yourself say that whether it is during this course or any other aspect of your online business you need to replace that thought with ‘But what if it DOES WORK?‘.
This course will give you everything you need to get started or improve what you are doing. It is, however, a journey along which you will need to pick up further new skills, processes, technologies and so on. This course is not the final destination. I will continue to create further free content to help you along that journey as well as connected paid courses and there are so many resources available to help you elsewhere too. It will work if you want it to and believe it will and choose to discover and link together all the necessary steps in that journey.
Don’t let any self limiting beliefs get in your way. Focus on where you want to be then use the tools available to get you there.
I cannot wait to guide you over these next 3 weeks …
Building a sustainable online business that grows year on year requires a number of key components. Social media is a key component which, when done well, can prove to be a great recruiting ground for new customers as well as a place to nurture existing customers.
Being on ‘rented ground’ however, it is under a 3rd party’s control not yours and is constantly evolving meaning that you will have to move with it if you are to get the most from it.
Let me give you a deeper insight into that process so that it will work better for you!
I look forward to meeting you personally within the course.
“The section on social media was very informative because you broke down the demographics. If I stick to business pages in social media and do the ‘know like trust’, ‘have you joined my email list’, ‘have you done this’, ‘I am going to offer a class’ … that is something I have neglected so it was so good to see that. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket in one social media platform – its true!”
